Etsy & Shopify Fee Calculator
Example: Item price: 40 $ · Shipping charged to buyer: 6 $ · Product cost (materials + labor): 12 $ · Listing fee: 0.2 $ · Transaction fee: 6.5 % · Payment processing fee: 3 % · Payment flat fee: 0.25 $
| Net profit on the sale | $29 |
| Total platform fees | $5 |
| Profit margin | 63.43% |
Worked example
Sell a $40 item with $6 shipping, so the order is $46. A 6.5% transaction fee on the full $46 is $2.99, payment processing at 3% plus $0.25 is $1.63, and a $0.20 listing fee brings total fees to about $4.82. Subtract your $12 product cost and $4.82 in fees from the $46 order and you keep about $29.18, a 63.4% margin. Note the transaction fee applies to shipping too, which surprises many sellers.
Frequently asked questions
Do fees apply to shipping I charge?
On many marketplaces, yes. Transaction and payment fees are typically calculated on the full order total, including the shipping you charge the buyer, not just the item price. This calculator reflects that.
What fees am I forgetting?
Optional costs like advertising or offsite-ads fees, currency conversion, and subscription plans are not in this single-sale view. If you use them, subtract them separately to see true profitability.
How can I protect my margin from fees?
Price with the fees included from the start, bundle products to spread the flat fees over a larger order, and reduce reliance on paid promotion. Knowing the fee load per sale is the first step.
Are these the exact current fees?
Fee rates change and vary by platform, plan, and region, so the defaults are typical starting points. Enter your platform's current rates for an accurate result.
